Yung Bans is an American rapper from Atlanta. He broke onto the rap scene with the 2015 viral hit “4Tspoon” featuring Playboi Carti. His discography now includes songs like “Dresser”, “Lonely” with Lil Skies and “Different Colors” featuring Lil Yachty. He’s collaborated with XXXTentacion, Ski Mask The Slump God, and Smokepurpp among others. Yung Bans was born Vas Coleman on May 25, 1999, in St. Louis, Missouri. He grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, more specifically Union City. Bans attended Langston Hughes High School in Fairburn, Georgia. He sold sneakers at one point to help fund his music career.
CAREER
Coleman began rapping as early as the 6th grade. He initially went by the moniker “Ban Boy.” Over time the stage name evolved into Yung Bans. Growing up, he listened to Lil Wayne, Tyler, The Creator and Chief Keef. One of Bans’ first tracks “Keep It On Me” was released via SoundCloud in January 2015. It was produced by Xangang. His breakout single “4Tspoon” featuring Playboi Carti followed in May 2015. It became a viral hit with 9.5+ spins on SoundCloud. The accompanying visual has been viewed 1+ million times on YouTube. Bans dropped his summer single “Dresser” in July 2017. The track was produced by MilanMakesBeats. It was featured in an episode of the FX comedy-drama series Atlanta. Bans closed out 2017 with the EPs ‘Yung Bans’ and ‘Yung Bans Vol. 2’. They combined for 12 tracks and featured Smokepurpp, Larry League, and Lil Skies. His “Lonely” collaboration with Skies has received mostly positive reviews. The third and fourth installments of the Yung Bans EP were released in the first quarter of 2018. The latter featured Lil Yachty and Lil Xan on the tracks “Different Colors” and “Yung Xan” respectively. Bans was featured on Future‘s 2018 single “Bag.” The song was added to the soundtrack of SuperFly (2018).
Bans’ latest project, Yung Bans Vol. 5, arrived in June 2018. It was supported by the song “Ridin” featuring Landon Cube and YBN Nahmir. Rappers Lil Tracy and Juice WRLD made guest appearances. The EP paid tribute to the late XXXTentacion with the track “So Long My Friend.” Bans concluded 2018 with his 72-track project. It features songs from his 5 previously released EPs.
