ORIGIN
Yelawolf is an American rapper, singer/songwriter, and record producer from Gadsden, Alabama. His full-length projects include Radioactive (2011), Love Story (2015), and Trial by Fire (2017). Other notable projects include the mixtapes Trunk Muzik 0-60 (2010) and Psycho White (2012) with Travis Barker. Yelawolf is the head of the independent record label ‘Slumerican.’ He’s currently signed to Interscope Records and to Eminem‘s Shady Records.

Given name, Michael Wayne Atha, he was born on December 30, 1979, in Gadsden, Alabama. His mom, Sheila, was 16 when she gave birth. Growing up, the family roamed and lived in different cities. Atha spent a portion of his childhood in Antioch, Tennessee, where he attended Carter Lawrence Elementary in Nashville. By the time he left high school, he’s already been to more than 10 different schools. Atha’s early music influences include Run-DMC, Outkast, and Dungeon Family among others.

CAREER
In 2005, Yelawolf entered the spotlight as a contestant on UPN’s The Road to Stardom with Missy Elliott. His debut album, CreekWater, followed closely in June 2005. He also self-released his first mixtape, Pissin’ in a Barrel of Beez (2005). Yelawolf’s rise earned him a recording deal with Columbia Records. His first track on the label was titled “Kickin.” He was dropped from the label shortly after. Not fazed by Columbia’s decision, Yelawolf returned to the underground scene. His EP, Trunk Muzik 0-60, arrived in 2010. He would eventually land a spot on Eminem’s Shady Records in 2011.

Radioactive, Yelawolf’s second studio album, was released in November 2011 by Shady, DGC, and Interscope Records. It peaked at #4 on the Top Rap Albums chart with songs like “Hard White (Up in the Club)” and “Let’s Roll.” The project featured guest appearances from Lil Jon, Mystikal, Kid Rock and a few others. In 2012, Yelawolf released EPs ‘The Slumdon Bridge’ with Ed Sheeran, and ‘Psycho White’ with Travis Barker. In 2013, he accompanied Hopsin on the “F*ck It” tour which ran from November 14 in Phoenix, Arizona, to November 23 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Yelawolf founded his own hip-hop record label ‘Slumerican’ in 2012. The current roster includes DJ Paul and Three 6 Mafia. Their debut project, Black Fall (2013), was released as a free download. Yelawolf’s third album, Love Story, dropped in April 2015. It charted at #3 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Gold with 100K+ units sold. The album was supported by singles “Box Chevy V”, “Till It’s Gone”, “Whiskey in a Bottle” and “Best Friend” with Eminem. His non-album single “Out of Control” featuring Travis Barker was released in 2016.

Yelawolf’s 4th album, Trial by Fire, premiered in October 2017. It was produced exclusively by him. The album had low sales with only 12,000 copies sold during opening week. His 5th album, Trunk Muzik 3, was released in March 2019. It marked his final album on the Shady Records label. Trunk Muzik 3 was supported by songs “TM3” and “Catfish Billy 2.” Guest appearance was made by Machine Gun Kelly and DJ Paul on the track “Rowdy.” A 6th studio album called ‘Ghetto Cowboy’ is reportedly in the works.

Yelawolf’s height is 6ft and he’s of Cherokee and Native American descent. He has multiple tattoos, including “Heart of Dixie” on his stomach. His net worth is estimated at $4.5 million USD.
