Waka Flocka Flame is an American hip-hop artist and reality television star. He became a household name with the 2010 single “No Hands” featuring Roscoe Dash and Wale. His full-length projects include Flockaveli (2010), Triple F Life: Fans, Friends & Family (2012) and Ferrari Boyz (2011) with Gucci Mane. Waka Flocka is also known for his “Salute Me or Shoot Me” mixtape series. In 2014, he joined the supporting cast of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.
Given name, Juaquin James Malphurs, he was born on May 31, 1986, in Queens, New York. His mom, Debra Antney, is no stranger to the music scene. She once served as Gucci Mane’s manager. Juaquin spent his early childhood in the residential neighborhood of Jamaica. The family moved to Riverdale, Georgia, when he was about 9. He currently reps Atlanta, Georgia. In January 2010, Juaquin was shot during a robbery at a local car wash. He suffered no serious injuries. His younger brother, KayO Redd, died from suicide in December 2013.

Waka Flocka cites Lil Jon, Eazy-E, and Gucci Mane as some of his early influences. He met Gucci when he was about 19. Their friendship led to a recording contract with Gucci’s 1017 Brick Squad. The label is home to Chief Keef, Young Dolph and Zaytoven among others. Waka Flocka’s breakout single “O Let’s Do It” dropped in April 2009. It performed well, reaching #7 on the Hot Rap Songs chart. His full-length debut, Flockaveli, arrived in October 2010. It peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200 and sold upwards of 375,000 copies. It was supported by the single “She Be Puttin’ On”, produced by 808 Mafia. Waka Flocka’s second solo album, Triple F Life: Fans, Friends & Family, was released in July 2012. It was led by “Round of Applause” featuring Drake. Other standout tracks include “I Don’t Really Care” with Trey Songz, and “Get Low” featuring Nicki Minaj, Tyga and Flo Rida. Waka Flocka released 11 mixtapes between 2013 and 2018. He’s currently working on his third solo album, Flockaveli 2.
In addition to music, Waka Flocka is a reality star. He made his debut on ‘Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta’ in a 2014 episode titled “The Next Chapter.” He appeared in a total of 16 episodes between 2014 and 2017.
