Vernon Davis is a retired American football player from Washington, D.C. He played the tight end position for the San Francisco 49ers (2006–2015), Denver Broncos (2015), and the Washington Redskins (2016–2019). Davis has a career 63 receiving touchdowns, 583 receptions, and 7,562 receiving yards. He won Super Bowl 50 as a member of the Broncos. His career highlights also include 2x Pro Bowl, 1x Second-team All-Pro, and the 2009 NFL receiving touchdowns leader.
Vernon Davis was born on January 31, 1984, in Washington, D.C. His parents are Jacqueline and Duke Davis. He has two brothers, Vontae and Michael. Davis attended Truesdell Elementary followed by Paul Public Charter School. He continued his studies at Dunbar High School and later at the University of Maryland. Davis’ college major was studio arts. He was drafted prior to completing his degree.
CAREER
Davis began taking football seriously in middle school. He played for the MacFarland Middle School team because his middle school didn’t have a football team at the time. Davis continued his football career at Dunbar High School. He was teammates with future NFL kick returner Josh Cribbs. At Dunbar, Davis lettered in football, basketball, and track. He was dubbed as one of the top-5 tight ends for the class of 2003. Additionally, he was the 2002 DCIAA high jump champion with an impressive jump of 198cm.
Davis played NCAA football at the University of Maryland, College Park. He wore the #18 jersey for the Maryland Terrapins. In 2003, Davis played 13 games and had 5 receptions. For the 2004 season, he improved to 27 receptions for 441 yards. His numbers nearly double for the 2005 season, with 51 catches for 871 yards. He also picked up 6 touchdowns.
