Tory Lanez is a Canadian rapper, singer/songwriter, and music producer. He’s known for songs like “Luv”, “Say It” and “LA Confidential”. His discography includes I Told You (2016), Cruel Intentions (2015), and Lost Cause (2014). He’s worked with the record labels Interscope and Mad Love Records. Lanez was born Daystar Peterson on July 27, 1992, in Toronto, Canada. His parents are Sonstar and Luella Peterson (d. rare disease). He has an older brother named Orane Forrest. The family would later move to Miami, Florida. He’s lived in other places like Atlanta, Georgia, and New York City.

Lanez dropped out of high school to focus on his music. His influences include Jay Z, Kanye West, Biggie and R. Kelly. He also caught the attention of Sean Kingston. Lanez inked a recording deal with Mad Love Records in July 2015. The label is associated with Interscope and it’s headed by Benny Blanco. Lanez closed out 2015 with the tapes ‘Chixtape III’ and ‘The New Toronto’, both released on Christmas Day. His full-length album debut, I Told You, arrived in August 2016. The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 and #2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. It was supported by the Billboard Hot 100 singles “Say It” and “Luv”. The latter was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B song. Lanez released the tapes ‘Chixtape IV’ and ‘The New Toronto 2’ in January 2017. His second studio album ‘Memories Don’t Die’ is scheduled for 2018. The first four singles are “Shooters”, “Skrt Skrt”, “I Sip” and “Real Thing” featuring Future. In 2018, Lanez collaborated on the single “Miss You” with Major Lazer and Cashmere Cat. He’s also worked with artists like Massari, Busta Rhymes, Meek Mill, Sean Paul, G-Eazy and several others.
