ORIGIN Edit
Thutmose is a Nigerian-born American rapper and songwriter. He’s known for standout singles “Blame”, “Memories”, “Summer’s Gone” and “Run Wild” with NoMBe. His debut mixtape, Man On Fire, was released in 2018. Thut has opened for acts like Billie Eilish and Migos. He’s already collaborated with NYC artists Jay Critch and Desiigner.

Given name, Umar Ibrahim, he was born on August 4, 1993, in Lagos, Nigeria. At age 9, he relocated to the United States, settling in Brooklyn, New York. The family fled Nigeria following the 2002 Lagos Armoury explosion. Thut recalls the SWAT team raiding his Brooklyn home within months of arriving in the USA. They held a gun to his father’s head as per his recount. Growing up, Thut enjoyed playing soccer. He studied computer science briefly at Alfred College. When asked about an alternative career path, the artist singled out the tech industry as his likely choice.

CAREER
Thutmose is a talented and diverse artist, combining both melody and rap. He cites Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z and Sade as his biggest influences. He listened to Michael Jackson and Erykah Badu back in Nigeria. Thut emerged on SoundCloud in 2016 with “Mississippi Masala”, produced by Warren Xcince. He followed up with “American Beauty (Overdose)” two months later. Thutmose dropped a freestyle to Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble” in May 2017. The track went viral, racking up thousands of plays on SoundCloud and YouTube. He opened for pop singer Billie Eilish during her 2017 Don’t Smile at me Tour.

2017 saw the release of “Blame”, “WuWu” and “Kanye’s Favorite Song” featuring Jalen Santoy. Produced by KillaGraham, they attracted thousands of streams across major outlets. Thut kicked off 2018 with “Ride With Me” and “Karma” alongside Alex Mali. He gained some major exposure after his single “Run Wild” was added to the soundtrack of the 2018 FIFA World Cup trailer. The song was produced by KillaGraham and featured NoMBe.

In June 2018, Thutmose opened for Migos at the EA Play event at the Hollywood Palladium theater in Los Angeles. His joint EP ‘Run Wild’ with NoMBe arrived in August 2018. It featured 6 tracks, including “Summer’s Gone” and the aforementioned “Run Wild.” Thut’s debut mixtape, Man On Fire, was released in October 2018 by TH3RD BRAIN. The project title was inspired by Denzel Washington’s 2004 film of the same name. Man On Fire boasted an intro by Erykah Badu on the track “Pressure.” The tape featured guest appearances from Jay Critch, Desiigner, Pink Sweat$ and a few others. Production was handled by KillaGraham and Scott Storch among others.

PERSONAL
