Steve King is an American politician and member of the Republican party. He currently serves as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Iowa’s 4th district. Steven Arnold King was born on May 28, 1949, in Storm Lake, Iowa. His mother, Mildred, was a homemaker, and his father, Emmett, a police dispatcher. King grew up in Denison, IA, where he attended Denison Community High School. He studied math and biology at Northwest Missouri State University.

CAREER
King started out as a businessman prior to his career in politics. He founded the earth moving company, King Construction, in 1975. Ownership of the company has since been passed down to his eldest son. Other business ventures by King include the Kiron Business Association. He’s also worked with the Iowa Land Improvement Contractors’ Association.

King served as a member of the Iowa Senate from the 6th district from 1997 to 2003. He defeated Paul Shomshor in 2002 for the U.S. House of Representatives seat for Iowa’s 5th district. The district was renumbered to the 4th district following the 2010 census. King was sworn into office as the 4th district’s representative on January 3, 2013. During his tenure, he oversaw topics like abortion, gun ownership, immigration, and LGBT rights. King is a member of the House Committee on Small Business, the House Committee on Agriculture, and the House Committee on the Judiciary. He endorsed Ted Cruz and later Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
