Steve Dillon Is Dead

ORIGIN
Steve Dillon was an English Eisner Award-winning comic book artist. He was best known for co-creating the ‘Preacher’ comic-book series. Other notable works included Hellblazer, The Punisher, and 2000 AD. Dillon was born in Luton, Bedfordshire on March 22, 1962. His younger brother ‘Glyn’ also does comics. Dillon attended Icknield High School in his hometown. He moved to the United States in the 1980s.

CAREER
Dillon discovered his talent for drawing while attending Icknield High School. He contributed to the school’s 1975 comic book titled ‘Ultimate Sci Fi Adventures’. Dillon got his big break drawing Hulk and Nick Fury strips for Marvel UK. He was 16 at the time. He later created the character “Abslom Daak” for Doctor Who Magazine. Other early contributions included ‘Warrior’, and ‘2000 AD’. He also created artwork for Skreemer, Animal Man, and The Atom.

Dillon and Brett Ewins co-created the comic magazine, Deadline. The series featured a mix of comic strips and articles aimed at an older audience. It was published from 1988 to 1995. Dillon worked alongside Garth Ennis on the comic series, Hellblazer (1988-2013) and Preacher (1995-2000). His work on Preacher earned him an Eisner Award in 1999. Preacher was adopted into a television series by AMC. The series premiered on May 22, 2016. It stars Dominic Cooper as “Jesse Custer”, Joe Gilgun as “Cassidy”, and Ruth Negga as “Tulip O’Hare”.

Steve Dillon died on October 22, 2016 at the age of 54. His official cause of death was not disclosed. He’s survived by his brother Glyn.
