Steve Aoki is an American musician, record producer, and CEO of Dim Mak Records. He specializes in EDM, electro house, and dubstep. His discography includes ‘Wonderland’ and the ‘Neon Future’ album series. Aoki was born Steven Hiroyuki Aoki on November 30, 1977, in Miami, Florida. His late father, Rocky Aoki, was a professional wrestler and founder of Benihana Inc. He has siblings, Kana and Kevin, and half-sister Devon Aoki. Steve grew up in Newport Beach where he attended Newport Harbor High School. There he was a member of the badminton varsity team. He continued his studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

CAREER
Aoki launched his own record label, Dim Mak Records, in 1996. Dim Mak is based in Los Angeles, California, and is also a lifestyle brand and events company. Aoki was a member of the duo ‘Weird Science’. He then served as the vocalist for the punk band, This Machine Kills, from 1997 to 2000. Aoki’s first official mixtape ‘Pillowface and His Airplane Chronicles’ was released in October 2007 by Thrive Records. It rose to #8 on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart. He released a remix of Drake‘s single “Forever” in November 2009. The track featured Drake, Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Eminem.

Aoki’s debut studio album, Wonderland, was released in January 2012 by Dim Mak and Ultra Records. It was led by the singles “Earthquakey People” featuring Rivers Cuomo, and “Ladi Dadi” featuring Wynter Gordon. The project also featured guest artists like will.i.am, Kid Cudi, Kay and Travis Barker. Wonderland won a Grammy Award nomination for best dance/electronica album. Aoki’s sophomore album, Neon Future I, was released in 2014. A third installment of the album is scheduled for release in 2017.

Aoki made a guest appearance in a 2013 episode of the television series, Arrow. He was featured in the 2014 documentary ‘The Distortion of Sound’, produced by Jacob Rosenberg. Aoki’s film credits include The Hive (2014), Point Break (2015), and Why Him? (2016). He’s also done voice roles for the series ‘Robot Chicken’ and for the animated film, Charming (2017).
