Skinnyfromthe9 is an American rapper and songwriter currently signed to L.A. Reid’s HitCo and to Tr3yway Entertainment. He’s known for tracks like “Love Blast”, “Back When I Was Broke” and “Family Rich” featuring Jay Critch. He’s collaborated with acts like PnB Rock and Stitches. Skinnyfromthe9 was born David Alex Villegas on December 19, 1995, in Hialeah, Florida. He has 6 siblings, including a younger brother named Joshua. The family moved about quite a bit due to his mother’s involvement in illegal activities (identity fraud, gambling, scams, etc). Skinny would eventually move to Somerville, New Jersey, to live with his father David Andres Villegas. He was about 13 at the time. He attended both middle school and high school in Somerville.

Skinny’s breakout single “Love Blast” dropped in November 2017 to rave reviews. It was produced by FrankGotThePack. The track commanded an impressive 7.8+ million plays on SoundCloud. Skinnyfromthe9 supported Fetty Wap on his ‘FMF Tour’ which kicked off in January 2018. The tour featured stops in states like New York, California, and Texas.

Skinny’s next viral hit, Back When I Was Broke, arrived in April 2018. It was released by HitCo. The accompanying video has been viewed upwards of 9 million times on YouTube. It was directed by Jazzbo for Upstate Groove Productions. In August 2018, Skinnyfromthe9 and three others (his father David, his brother Joshua, and a man named Troy Warren) were arrested for kidnapping, aggravated assault, and robbery. Their victim was a 21-year old man whose name has been withed. Skinny accepted a plead deal in exchange for less prison time. He was released in late September 2018.
