O’Connor rose to stardom with the release of her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, in 1990. The album peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200, sold 7 million copies, and picked up four Grammy nominations. The album featured the hit single “Nothing Compares 2 U”, written by Prince.

Other albums by O’Connor include ‘Am I Not Your Girl? (1992)’, ‘Faith and Courage (2000)’, and more recently ‘How About I Be Me (and You Be You)? (2012)’, and ‘I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss (2014)’. O’Connor also had her share of controversy starting back in 1989 when she announced her support for the Irish Republican Army. She boycotted the Grammy ceremony in 1991 and in 1992 she tore up a photograph of Pope John Paul II during a live television broadcast.
