Shirley Temple was an American actress who achieved early success as a child star. She transitioned to politics in her 30s and became a U.S. diplomat for the United Nations. She was born on April 23, 1928 in Santa Monica, California. Temple’s early interest in singing and dancing prompted her parents to enroll her in Meglin’s Dance School. She later attended Westlake School for Girls in Los Angeles.

CAREER
Temple career began at the age of 3 when she signed a contract with Educational Pictures. She made her acting debut in the short film series, Baby Burlesks, which featured other preschoolers. Temple was later signed to Fox Film Corporation and she appeared in the musical film, Stand Up and Cheer!. She followed suit with starring roles in the 1934 films, Baby Take a Bow, Little Miss Marker, and Bright Eyes. She was subsequently awarded a Juvenile Oscar for her early film accomplishments. Other notable films includes ‘Curly Top (1935)’, ‘Wee Willie Winkie (1937)’ and ‘Heidi (1937)’. Temple retired from acting in 1950 at age 22. She was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2005.

Temple ventured into politics in the 1960s and was appointed United States Ambassador to Ghana in 1974. She served as the 18th Chief of Protocol of the United States from 1976-1977. She later served as the 27th United States Ambassador to Czechoslovakia from 1989-1992.

PERSONAL
Shirley Temple died at the age of 85 on February 10, 2014. Her cause of death was respiratory failure (emphysema). She was married to first husband “John Agar” from 1945-1950 and second husband “Charles Alden Black” from 1950-2005. Temple is survived by three children, Linda, Charles Jr. and Lori. She was 5ft 2in tall and had a net worth of $30 million.
