Scott Wilson was an American film and television actor. He portrayed “Hershel Greene” on AMC’s The Walking Dead and “Abel Johnson” on Netflix’s The OA. His standout films include In Cold Blood (1967), In the Heat of the Night (1967), Pearl Harbor (2001), Dead Man Walking (1995), and The Ninth Configuration (1980). The latter earned him a Golden Globe Award nomination for best supporting actor. Given the name William Delano Wilson, he was born on March 29, 1942, in Thomasville, Georgia. His birth parents were Thomas and Jewel Wilson. He had a sister named Dana. Wilson attended Thomasville High School, graduating in 1960. He continued his studies at Southern Polytechnic State University on a basketball scholarship. He gave up sports due to health reasons.

CAREER
Wilson made the long trip to Los Angeles, California, in 1961. He took 5 years of acting classes before landing his breakout role in the drama film In the Heat of the Night (1967). The film was directed by Norman Jewison and stars Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger. It made $24.3 million at the box office and won 5 Academy Awards. Wilson portrayed “Richard Hickock” in Richard Brooks’ drama film In Cold Blood (1967). The film was based on Truman Capote’s 1966 non-fiction book of the same name. Scott Wilson died on October 6, 2018, at the age of 76. His reported cause of death was complications from leukemia. He passed away in Los Angeles, California.
