Salma Hayek is a Mexican-born American actress, producer, and director. She’s also a former model. Her acting credits include Frida, Desperado, and Ugly Betty. Hayek was born Salma Hayek Jimenez on September 2, 1966, in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico. Her mother, Diana, is an Opera singer, and her father, Sami, worked as an oil company executive. She has a younger brother named Sami who designs furniture. Hayek grew up in a Catholic household. She attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Louisiana, U.S. She studied briefly at the Universidad Iberoamericana upon her return to Mexico.

CAREER
Hayek made her television debut in Un Nuevo Amanecer (1988). She starred as “Teresa” in the telenovela, Teresa. The series ran from August 1989 to January 1990 for a total of 125 episodes. Hayek moved to Los Angeles in 1991 in an effort to improve her English and to pursue acting roles. She starred opposite Antonio Banderas in the 1995 western-action, Desperado. She followed up with prominent roles in Fools Rush In (1997) with Matthew Perry, Wild Wild West (1999) with Will Smith, and Dogma (1999) with Ben Affleck.

In 2002, Hayek produced and starred as “Frida Kahlo” in the biopic-drama film, Frida. She picked up several honors including an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Hayek won a Daytime Emmy Award in 2003 for producing and directing the Showtime movie, The Maldonado Miracle. She served as executive producer for the comedy-drama series, Ugly Betty. She also made cameo appearances as “Sofia Reyes”. The show ran for 4 seasons on ABC from September 2006 to April 2010. Hayek’s recent films include Grown Ups (2010), and Everly (2014). She voiced the character “Kitty Softpaws” from Puss in Boots (2011), and “Theresa Taco” from Sausage Party (2016).
