Ryan Phillippe is an American actor, director, and writer. He’s known for films like I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), Flags of Our Fathers (2006), and The Bang Bang Club (2010). His television credits include One Life to Live, Damages, and Shooter. Matthew Ryan Phillippe was born on September 10, 1974, in New Castle, Delaware. His mother, Susan, worked in daycare and his father, Richard, was a chemical technician. He has 3 sisters, Katelyn, Kirsten, and Lindsay. Phillippe attended New Castle Christian Academy. He’s a graduate of the Barbizon Modeling and Acting Program in Wilmington, Delaware. He also holds a black belt in tae kwon do.

Phillippe made his television debut on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live. He was cast as “Billy Douglas”, an openly gay teenager. He held that role from April 1992 to May 1993 for 13 episodes. He appeared in the television film, The Case of the Grimacing Governor (1994). Other early television appearances include Matlock, Chicago Hope, Due South, and The Outer Limits. Phillippe made his big-screen debut in the submarine film, Crimson Tide (1995). He was cast as “Barry William Cox” in the slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). The film was directed by Jim Gillespie and stars Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Sarah Michelle Gellar. He followed up with prominent roles in 54 (1998), Cruel Intentions (1999), and The Way of the Gun (2000). He had a supporting role as “Henry Denton” in the Oscar-nominated film Gosford Park (2001).

Phillippe portrayed Navy corpsman “John Bradley” in the war film, Flags of Our Fathers (2006), which was directed by Clint Eastwood. He played FBI investigator “Eric O’Neill” opposite Chris Cooper in the political thriller Breach (2007). He starred as a Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer in The Bang Bang Club (2010). His film credits also include Crash (2004) with Sandra Bullock, Chaos (2005) with Jason Statham, Stop-Loss (2008) with Channing Tatum, and The Lincoln Lawyer (2011) with Matthew McConaughey. In 2012, Phillippe was cast as “Channing McClaren” on the 5th season of Damages. His directorial debut ‘Catch Hell’ was released in October 2014. He currently stars as “Bob Lee Swagger” on the USA Network drama series Shooter (2016-).
