Roger Ailes was an American television producer and former Chairman and CEO of Fox News. He resigned in July 2016 due to sexual harassment allegations. He also served as a political consultant for a few former Republican presidents. Ailes was born to parents Robert and Donna on May 15, 1940, in Warren, Ohio. He had an older brother named Robert, Jr. Ailes attended Warren High School followed by Ohio University, Athens. He graduated in 1962 with a BA degree in radio and television.
CAREER
Ailes began his career as a property assistant for KYW-TV in 1962. He served as executive producer for the television program ‘The Mike Douglas Show’ from 1967 to 1968. He won 2 Emmy Awards for his work on the show. Ailes served as a media adviser to Richard Nixon during his 1968 presidential campaign. His consulting firm, Ailes Communication, was founded a year later. Ailes served as a political consultant for Ronald Reagan and later for George H. W. Bush. He also served as an adviser during Donald Trump‘s 2016 debate preparations.
Ailes served as president of CNBC from 1993 to 1996. During his tenure, he created the channel ‘America’s Talking’ on which he hosted the talk show “Straight Forward”. The channel was eventually renamed MSNBC. Ailes was hired by media mogul Rupert Murdoch as the founding CEO of Fox News in October 1996. He was named chairman of the Fox Television Stations Group in 2005. Ailes spent 20 years with Fox News from 1996 until his resignation in July 2016. He stepped down shortly after former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against him. Several other women have made similar claims, most notably journalist Megyn Kelly.
