Rich Homie Quan was an American rapper and singer. His debut studio album, Rich as in Spirit (2018), peaked at #32 on the Billboard 200. Quan was born Dequantes Devontay Lamar on October 4, 1989, in Atlanta, Georgia. After his parents separated, he was forced to move back and forth between homes. Quan attended Ronald McNair Sr. High School, where he excelled at poetry and creative writing. He also played varsity baseball which earned him a scholarship offer from Fort Valley State University. Quan declined the scholarship and pursued music instead. He was inspired by artists like Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy and T.I.

CAREER
Quan gained early recognition with his 2008 single “Stay Down”. He was later signed to the independent label T.I.G Entertainment. His debut mixtape, I Go In On Every Song, was released in April 2012. He followed up with a second mixtape, Still Goin In, which featured the single “Differences” in August 2012. Quan’s single “Type of Way” was released in 2013 by Def Jam Recordings. The song peaked at #50 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and was certified Gold by the RIAA.

Quan released a total of 9 mixtapes, 4 EPs, and multiple singles. His last mixtape, Back to the Basics, was released in April 2017 as a digital download. Quan’s debut studio album, Rich as in Spirit, premiered in March 2018 via Motown Records. It was supported by the singles “34” and “Changed.” Quan spent north of 10 years as a hip-hop artist. He collaborated with the likes of Young Thug, Problem and 2 Chainz among others.

PERSONAL
Rich Homie Quan died on September 5, 2024, at age 34. His official cause of death was an accidental drug overdose. He’s survived by 5 children – Devin, Royal, Khosen, Layor, and Elaina. Rich Homie Quan had an estimated net worth of $3.5 million when he was alive. His height was penned at 5ft 9in.
