Rich Brian is an Indonesian rapper, songwriter, comedian, and internet personality. He was formerly known as Rich Chigga. He rose to prominence with songs like “Dat Stick”, “Who That Be”, “Gospel” and “Glow Like Dat”. His debut album, Amen, was released in February 2018. Brian Imanuel was born on September 2, 1999, in Jakarta, Indonesia. His parents are of Chinese-Indonesian ancestry. He has four siblings, including Sonia Eryka and Roy Leonard. Brian grew up in West Jakarta and he was homeschooled. He learned the English language by watching YouTube videos.

CAREER
Prior to music, Brian did primarily comedy. He started out sharing images on Twitter in 2010. A photoshopped picture of him and President Barack Obama created quite the buzz online. He eventually moved to Vine where his short videos and dark-comedy skits earned him tons of followers. Brian extended his reach to YouTube. His self-titled channel ‘Brian Imanuel’ was created in April 2014. It now has 880,000+ subscribers with more than 116 million video views. Selected videos include “Suicide Hotline”, “How to microwave #bread” and “How I Surprised Post Malone with a Mariachi Band”. Brian began his rap career under the moniker “Rich Chigga”. His music influences include artists like Tyler, The Creator, Young Thug and Childish Gambino. He started writing rap lyrics in 2014. His first track “Living the Dream” was released in July 2015 on YouTube. It was produced by DJ Smokey. Chigga’s debut single “Dat Stick” was independently released in March 2016. It peaked at #4 on the Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. The official music video for Dat Stick has been viewed more than 63 million times on YouTube. Several artists reacted to the video including 21 Savage, MadeinTYO and Desiigner. An official remix featuring Ghostface Killah and Pouya was released in October 2016.

Chigga followed up with two more singles in 2016 “Who That Be” and “Seventeen”. In 2017, he embarked on his first U.S. tour which lasted from April to May. Chigga collaborated with Keith Ape and XXXTentacion on the single “Gospel”. The song was produced by Ronny J and released by 88rising and Empire Distribution. Later that year he was dubbed “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” at the 4th Indonesian Choice Awards. Chigga closed out 2017 with his Come to My Party Tour. He officially changed his name to “Rich Brian” in January 2018. His debut studio album, Amen, followed in February 2018. It was released on the labels 88rising Music and Empire Distribution. The album peaked at #18 on the Billboard 200. It produced three singles “Glow Like Dat”, “Chaos” and “See Me”. Recording artists Offset and Joji were featured on the project.
