Remy Ma is an American rapper, songwriter, and former member of the hip-hop crew, Terror Squad. Her discography includes There’s Something About Remy (2006) and the upcoming Seven Winters & Six Summers (2017). She was added to the main cast of Love & Hip Hop: New York in 2015. Remy Ma was born Reminisce Smith on May 30, 1980, in Bronx, New York. Her siblings include Kristin and Remeesha. She was raised in the Castle Hill area of the Bronx.

CAREER
Remy Ma started out writing poetry and performing rhymes. Her influences include Big Pun and Roxanne Shante. She was featured on Big Pun’s album ‘Yeeeah Baby (2000)’ under the stage name Remy Martin. In 2000, Remy Ma joined Fat Joe’s rap crew, Terror Squad, and she was later signed to Universal Records. Terror Squad’s second album, True Story, was released in July 2004. It peaked at #7 on the Billboard and featured the hit single “Lean Back”.

Remy Ma’s debut studio album, There’s Something About Remy, was released in February 2006. The album rose to #2 on the Billboard Top Rap charts. It was led by the singles “Conceited”, “Whateva” and “Feels So Good”. The album featured guest artists like Ne-Yo, Keyshia Cole, and Ivy Queen. The collaborative single “All the Way Up” between Remy Ma and Fat Joe was released in March 2016. It was nominated for two Grammy Awards including one for Best Rap Song. Remy Ma has collaborated with rappers like DJ Khaled, Rick Ross and French Montana. Her second studio album, Seven Winters & Six Summers, is slated for release in 2017.

Remy Ma is also known for her feud with rappers Foxy Brown and Nicki Minaj. She released a diss track titled “ShETHER” aimed at Minaj in February 2017.

In addition to rapping, Remy Ma has some television credits to her name. She was added to the main cast of VH1’s reality series, Love & Hip Hop: New York, in 2015. Remy Ma is 5ft 10in tall and she’s of African-American descent. Her net worth is estimated at $4 million. Remy Ma is married to fellow rapper Shamele Mackie better known as ‘Papoose’. The two tied the knot in May 2008. She also has a son named Jayson.

In 2008, Remy Ma was sentenced to 8 years in prison for the shooting of Makeeda Barnes-Joseph. Her charges include assault and illegal weapon possession. She served 6 years at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women before she was released in August 2014.
