Reginald VelJohnson is an American film/television actor and comedian. He rose to prominence as “Carl Winslow” in the ABC sitcom Family Matters. His film credits include Die Hard (1988), Posse (1993), and Turner & Hooch (1989). VelJohnson was born on August 16, 1952, in Queens, New York. His mother, Eve, was a nurse, and his father, Reginald, was a hospital attendant. He has a younger brother named Barry. VelJohnson attended Benjamin N. Cardozo High School followed by New York University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater.

CAREER
VelJohnson got a feel for acting while attending high school. He starred in his class production of The King and I. He was classmates with adult-film star Ron Jeremy. VelJohnson made his film debut in the crime horror, Wolfen (1981). He played a police officer in Ghostbusters (1984) and a limo driver in Crocodile Dundee (1986). VelJohnson held a supporting role as sergeant “Al Powell” in Die Hard (1988) starring Bruce Willis. The role was reprised in Die Hard 2 (1990). VelJohnson wrote, produced, and starred in the short film, Sunday Evening Haircut (2005).
