Randy Travis is an American country singer, songwriter, guitarist and actor. He’s recorded 21 studio albums, sold over 25 million records and won 6 Grammy Awards. He rose to prominence with the 1986 album, Storms of Life. Travis was born Randy Bruce Traywick on May 4, 1959 in Marshville, North Carolina. His mother, Bobbie, worked in textile, and his father, Harold, worked as a horse breeder. He has five siblings, David, Dennis, Ricky, Sue and Rose. Travis attended high school but never completed a diploma. He dropped out and landed a job as a construction worker.

CAREER
Travis started out singing and playing the guitar at a young age. He was inspired by artists like Hank Williams, Gene Autry and George Jones. Travis was able to launch is music career with the help of Elizabeth Hatcher, a nightclub manager. His self-titled album, Randy Traywick, was recorded in 1978 by Paula Records. A second album dubbed ‘Live at the Nashville Palace’ was recorded in 1982.

Travis secured a contract with Warner Bros. Records in 1985. His debut studio album, Storms of Life, was released in June 1986 atop the Billboard Top Country charts. The album sold over three million units and was certified 3x platinum by the RIAA. Travis’ second album, Always & Forever (1987), saw similar success. He won a Grammy Award and a CMA award for Male Vocalist of the year. Other notable albums include Old 8×10 (1988), No Holdin’ Back (1989), and Heroes & Friends (1990). Travis’ film credits include The Rainmaker (1997) with Matt Damon, and Black Dog (1998) with Patrick Swayze. He’s also made guest appearances on shows like ‘Touched By and Angel’ and ‘Matlock’.

Travis has released a total of 21 studio albums, 2 live albums, and 17 compilation albums. His accolades include 6 Grammys, 6 AMAs and 9 ACM Awards. He was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2004, and into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
