Playboi Carti (formerly Sir Cartier) is an American rapper and music producer from Atlanta, Georgia. He broke out in 2017 with his self-titled mixtape. Carti is signed to ASAP Mob’s AWGE Label and Interscope records. His debut album, Die Lit, arrived in May 2018. He’s collaborated with ASAP Rocky, Lil Yachty and Tyler, the Creator among others. In 2017, he was 1 of 10 named to the XXL Freshman Class.

Carti was born Jordan Terrell Carter on September 13, 1996, in Atlanta Georgia. He spent his childhood in neighboring Riverdale, Georgia. One of his first jobs was at an H&M clothing store. Carti completed his studies at North Springs High School, located in Sandy Springs. During his tenure, he played competitive basketball. He would eventually quit basketball to focus on his music career.

The mixtape includes the singles “Magnolia”, “Woke Up Like This” with Lil Uzi Vert, and “Flex” with Leven Kali. It was certified Platinum in the US with 1+ million units sold. Carti made a guest appearance on Travis Scott‘s 2017 single “Green and Purple”. He also appeared on “Summer Bummer” from Lana Del Rey’s 5th album, Lust for Life (2017).

Die Lit, Carti’s debut solo album, was released in May 2018. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 with bangers like “FlatBed Freestyle” and “Shoota” with Lil Uzi Vert. The production was handled primarily by Pi’erre Bourne. Additional guest appearances were made by Nicki Minaj, Bryson Tiller, Skepta and a few others. Die Lit was dubbed one of the best albums of 2018 by publications such as Complex, Noisey, Pitchfork, and Spin.

In addition to recording and producing, Carti is a successful model. He was in Kanye West‘s Yeezy Season 5 collection. He’s also a big fan of fashion brands Balmain and Raf Simons. Carti has also modeled for Louis Vuitton, VFiles, and Lookbook. He’s appeared on the covers of ‘Brick’ and ‘Them’ magazine. His popularity extends to Instagram, where he has 2.9+ million followers.
