Pete Burns was an English singer, songwriter, and frontman of the pop band ‘Dead or Alive’. He was known for the hit single “You Spin Me Round” and for his appearance on the reality series ‘Celebrity Big Brother’. Burns was born Peter Jozzeppi Burns on August 5, 1959, in Bebington, Cheshire. His parents were Eva and Francis. Burns attended Catholic school as a child. He dropped out at age 14.

CAREER
Burns made his entry onto the music scene with a job at Probe Records in Liverpool. He formed the group ‘Mystery Girls’ in 1977 followed by ‘Nightmares In Wax’ in 1979. Burns renamed the group ‘Dead or Alive’ in 1980. The band members included Wayne Hussey, Mike Percy, Steve Coy, and Timothy Lever. Their debut studio album, Sophisticated Boom Boom, was released in 1984 by Epic Records. Their second album, Youthquake (1985), peaked at #9 on the UK Top 10 charts. It featured the single “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)”, “Lover Come Back to Me” and “In Too Deep”. Other albums included Nude (1989), Nukleopatra (1995), and Fragile (2000).

In 2006, Burns was a housemate on the fourth series of Channel 4’s Celebrity Big Brother. He finished fifth in the finals. He was also featured on the series ‘Celebrity Wife Swap (2008)’, and ‘The Body Shocking Show (2013)’. Burns’ debut solo single “Jack and Jill Party” was released in 2004. His latest solo effort “Never Marry an Icon” was released in 2010 by Bristar Records.

PERSONAL
Pete Burns died on October 23, 2016, at the age of 57. His reported cause of death was cardiac arrest. Burns was 5ft 8in tall and had a net worth of $100 thousand. He was married twice, first to the hairdresser ‘Lynne Corlett’ (1980-2006), and later to Michael Simpson (2006-2008). Burns underwent multiple cosmetic surgeries throughout his lifetime. His book, Freak Unique: My Autobiography, was published in 2006.
