Otis Clay was an American R&B singer and Blues Hall of Famer. He was born on February 11, 1942 in the rural community of Waxhaw, Mississippi. He moved to Muncie, Indiana with his family at age eleven.

CAREER
Clay started out as a gospel singer with the local group ‘the Voices of Hope’ followed by ‘the Christian Travelers’. He was signed to One-derful! Records in 1965 and recorded his first hit single “That’s How It Is (When You’re In Love)” in 1967. The track peaked at #34 on the US Billboard R&B charts. He was later signed to Atlantic Records and recorded another hit single “She’s About A Mover” in 1968. He was signed to Hi Records in 1971 and released his successful “Trying To Live My Life Without You” a year later. Clay launched his own recording label ‘Echo Records’ in the mid 1970s and released singles like “Messing With My Mind” and “A Nickel And A Nail”. He went on to release the Grammy nominated gospel CD ‘Walk A Mile in My Shoes’ in 2007. He was inducted to the Blues Hall of Fame in 2013. He was chairman of the non-profit company, Tobacco Road Incorporated.
