Nipsey Hussle was an American hip-hop artist from the West Coast. His 2013 mixtape, Crenshaw, reached the Billboards and linked him with big-name artists. Ermias Asghedom was born on August 15, 1985, in Los Angeles, California. His mother was American and his father was of African ancestry. A member of the notorious Crip gang, he grew up to the influences of Snoop Dog and Ice-T. Throughout high school, Nipsey Hussle got involved with the wrong crowd. Around the age of 15, he was put out of school and placed in boot camp for an alleged school robbery. After high school, he apparently took classes at a community college before leaving to pursue music full time.

CAREER
In 2005, Nipsey Hussle released his first mixtape, Slauson Boy Volume 1. A few years later in 2008, he inked a deal with Cinematic Music Group and Epic Records. He then unleashed the first two volumes of a trio mixtape, Bullets Ain’t Got No Name. 2009 would see the release of his debut single, Hussle in the House. He also was able to release volume 3 of his mixtape; completing the series. As his career took off, Nipsey Hussle collaborated with the likes of Drake, Snoop Dog, and Problem.

In 2010, he received major recognition from top magazine companies. Nipsey Hussle was nominated by XXL Magazine as one of the Annual Freshman Top Ten. He also received a warm embrace from the LA Weekly. Despite announcing the release date of his debut studio album, South Central State of Mind, the project was never completed and was eventually postponed. Simultaneously, Nipsey Hussle and Epic Records had problems. The two dispersed and Hussle would start his own record label, All Money In. He then released two mixtapes, The Marathon, and its sequel, The Marathon Continues. Featured artist includes YG and Dom Kennedy.

Throughout 2012, Hussle continued working with prominent rappers. He did work with Rick Ross, Tyga, Mistah FAB and B-Legit. Notable collaborations include “Bitches Ain’t Shit,” “Proud of That,” and “Fountain of Youth.” In 2013, he released his debut album, Victory Lap. In a move to protect his creative freedom, he refused to sign with major record labels. Nipsey Hussle unleashed his breakthrough mixtape, Crenshaw, in 2013. The mixtape landed in the top 40 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Featured artists include the likes of Slim Thug, Z-Ro, Rick Ross, and more. He also released a documentary to promote his new mixtape.

In 2016, Nipsey Hussle reentered the spotlight with his controversial track. He released the single “FDT” (Fxxk Donald Trump) featuring YG. As expected, the song received major criticism. In recent work, his single, Last Time That I Checc’d, featuring YG made the rounds on YouTube. The music video racked up over 3 million views in just a few days

PERSONAL
Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed on March 31, 2019, at the age of 33. The shooting took place outside his “Marathon” clothing store in the neighborhood of Hyde Park in Los Angeles, California. Three victims including Nipsey were rushed to a nearby hospital. He has pronounced dead shortly after. Just mere hours before the shooting, Nipsey wrote: “Having strong enemies is a blessing” on his Twitter.

Nipsey Hussle was 6ft 3in tall. He had an estimated net worth of $8 Million USD prior to his death. He’s survived by two children, Emani and Kross Asghedom, and his girlfriend Lauren London. In addition to music, Nipsey Hussle was a small-time actor. He starred as “Ricky” in the film Caged Animal (2010) and had a supporting role as “Janky” in Love Chronicles: Secrets Revealed (2010).
