Nelly J, Cornell James Stampley III, is an American hip-hop artist born to Cornell Stampley Jr and Ramona Stampley. He was born on October 25, 1994, in Chicago, Illinois. Nelly J has five siblings: Venus, Jennifer, Corinthian, Karon, and Tavares. He is also the proud father of one daughter. Nelly J first captured the attention of the world with his hit single “Drip” from his debut album “Story Of Solomon,” released on June 19, 2017. Since then, he’s gained success with major blogs and continued radio play.

CAREER
Nelly J started his journey in the music industry in 2013 with the collective RVPTURE under the name Rvvkil. During his tenure with the group, he released one mixtape titled “Patience,” getting his feet wet in the music scene. In early 2016, Nelly J signed his first record label contract with Revoc Productions, a Chicago-based Label owned by record executive, Brittish Catoura. Shortly after signing to Revoc, Nelly J announced his departure from the collective and broke off his engagement with his ex-fiancé. After the breakup, Nelly J changed his stage name from “Rvvkil” to “Nelly J” (deriving from his first name “Cornell” and the first letter of his middle name “James”).

In Late 2016, Nelly J and record exec, BC, decided to shift focus and work on his solo project. In early 2017, Nelly J dropped his soon-to-be hit single “DRIP.” After much success with the release of Drip, on June 19, he released his debut album “Story Of Solomon.” Nelly J’s first album generated major success for him, which afforded him unimaginable opportunities for the rest of the year and 2018. Such opportunities included a verified Google Overview, round-the-clock radio play, interviews, blog articles, and opening for artists like Guordan Banks, Ace Hood, Pontiac DDG, and TINK to name a few. Currently, Nelly J is working on his sophomore album, set to be released in late 2019.
