Neil Armstrong was an American astronaut, aerospace engineer, military pilot, and educator. He made history on July 20, 1969, by becoming the first person to walk on the moon. Armstrong was born on August 5, 1930, in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He served in the Korean War and was an officer in the U.S. Navy. He completed his undergraduate degree at Purdue University and his graduate studies at the University of Southern California. He joined NASA astronaut program in 1962 and became a command pilot in 1966. Armstrong was spacecraft commander for Apollo 11, the first manned lunar mission. He spent a total of 8 days, 14 hours, 12 minutes, and 30 seconds in space. He was awarded the ‘Presidential Medal of Freedom’ by President Richard Nixon, and the ‘Congressional Space Medal of Honor’ by President Jimmy Carter. He died on August 25, 2012, due to complications from cardiac surgery. Neil Armstrong had an estimated net worth of $8 million.
