Nadia Toffa was an Italian investigative journalist and author. She worked as a television presenter on the comedy/satirical program ‘Le Iene’. Her television credits include ‘The Hyenas’ and ‘Open Space’. Toffa was born on June 10, 1979, in Brescia, Italy. She attended Arnaldo high school in Brescia, followed by the University of Florence. She graduated with a degree in literature and philosophy. Toffa’s thesis was titled “History of the key iconography of St. Peter”. She also experimented with gymnastics as a child.

CAREER
Toffa was best known for her work as a television presenter on the Italian program ‘Le Iene’. The program debut in 1997 and she joined the staff in 2009. ‘Le Iene’ runs on channel Italia 1. The satirical show covers political affairs and consumer issues. It is supplemented with sketches and reports. ‘Le Iene’ was modeled after the Argentine TV program ‘Caiga Quien Caiga’. Guest hosts over the years include Fabio Volo, Alessia Marcuzzi, Ilary Blasi and Luciana Littizzetto. Toffa’s credits include the television programs ‘The Hyenas’ and ‘Open Space’. She’s also worked with the stations Telesanterno and Retebrescia.

In 2015, Toffa was honored with the Ischia International Journalism Award for “Television Presenter of the Year.” She gained further notoriety in 2017 following a series of stories about the environmental impact of alleged nuclear testing under Italy’s Gran Sasso mountain. Her reports turned out to be false. Nevertheless, her name became the 3rd most searched on Google in 2017. The most searched was American journalist, Matt Lauer, and the second spot went to American actress Meghan Markle. Toffa was also an author. Her first book ‘Quando il gioco si fa duro’ (When the going gets tough) was published in April 2014.

PERSONAL
Nadia Toffa died on August 13, 2019, at the age of 40. The official cause of death was brain cancer. In December 2017, Toffa was hospitalized after fainting in a hotel located in Trieste. The nature of her illness was later revealed to be a tumor. She was hospitalized from July 2019 until her death. Toffa’s height was 5ft 7in and she was of Italian descent. She was romantically linked to restaurateur Joe Bastianich in 2017. Those claims were rejected by her.
