Michael Jordan is a former American professional basketball player, businessman, and owner of the Charlotte Hornets. He led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA championships and won the Most Valuable Player Award five times. He stands 6ft 6in tall and played the shooting guard position. Jordan was born to parents James and Deloris on February 17, 1963, in Brooklyn, New York. He has four siblings, James Jr., Larry, Deloris, and Roslyn.
CAREER
Jordan grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina where he attended Emsley A. Laney High School. His competitiveness on the school’s varsity team earned him a spot on the McDonald’s All-American Team during his senior year. Jordan accepted a basketball scholarship to the University of North Carolina in 1981. He majored in cultural geography. Jordan played three seasons with the North Carolina Tar Heels, winning the NCAA Division I championships in 1982. He was named USA Basketball Male Athlete of the Year in 1983 and again in 1984.
Jordan was selected by the Chicago Bulls with the third overall pick in the 1984 NBA draft. He was named NBA Rookie of the Year after averaging 28.2 points per game for his first season. He played a total of 15 seasons in the NBA and averaged 30.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game. He’s a 6x NBA champion, 6x Finals MVP, and a 14x NBA All-Star. He also led the Bulls to an impressive 72 wins during the 1995-96 regular season. The record was broken by Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors in 2016. Jordan retired from the NBA in 2003 following his last season with the Washington Wizards. He became the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets in 2010. Jordan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. The #23 jersey was retired by the North Carolina Tar Heels, the Chicago Bulls, and the Miami Heat.
