Michael Douglas is an Oscar-winning American actor and filmmaker. His acting credits include the films Wall Street (1987), The American President (1995), and the drama series The Streets of San Francisco. Douglas was born on September 25, 1944, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. His parents were actors Diana and Kirk Douglas. He grew up with three brothers, Joel, Peter, and Eric. Douglas attended Choate Rosemary Hall followed by the University of California, Santa Barbara. He graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama.

CAREER
Douglas began his professional acting career in the late 1960s. His first notable role was that of “Inspector Steve Keller” in the ABC crime drama series, The Streets of San Francisco. He held that role from 1972 to 1976 for a total of four seasons. His performance earned him three Emmy Award nominations. Douglas served as an executive producer for the comedy-drama film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975). The film stars Jack Nicholson and won five Academy Awards, including one for best picture.

Douglas starred as “Jack Colton” alongside Danny DeVito and Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone (1984). The role was reprised a year later in The Jewel of the Nile (1985). Douglas won an Academy Award for best actor for his portrayal of “Gordon Gekko” in the film, Wall Street (1987). Selected films include The American President (1995) with Annette Bening, Wonder Boys (2000) with Tobey Maguire, and Solitary Man (2009) with Jenna Fischer. In 2013, Douglas starred as “Liberace” in the HBO drama film, Behind the Candelabra. The film also stars Matt Damon.

Douglas was married to his first wife ‘Diandra Luker’ from 1977 until their separation in 1995. Their marriage was finalized in 2000. They had a son named Cameron. Douglas wed actress ‘Catherine Zeta-Jones’ in November 2000. They have two children, Dylan Michael, and Carys Zeta.

Douglas was diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2010. He’s since undergone chemotherapy and radiation treatment. He announced in early 2011 that the tumor was gone.
