Michael Bloomberg is a billionaire businessman, politician, philanthropist and former mayor of New York City. His estimated net worth of $53 billion makes him one of the richest people in the world. Michael Rubens Bloomberg was born to parents William and Charlotte Bloomberg on February 14, 1942, in Boston, Massachusetts. He grew up in Medford, Boston. Bloomberg earned his BS degree in electrical engineering from John Hopkins University in 1964. He completed his MBA two years later at Harvard Business School.

CAREER
Bloomberg began his career with Salomon Brothers and became a partner in 1972. He was laid off in 1981 after the company was bought by Phibro Corporation. Bloomberg started his own company, Innovative Market Systems, that same year and renamed it to Bloomberg L.P. in 1987. The multi-billion dollar company is headquartered in Midtown Manhattan and has over 100 offices worldwide. They specialize in financial information and more recently media.

Bloomberg started his political career in the early 2000s. He defeated Mark J. Green in the 2001 New York City mayoral election to become the 108th mayor of New York City. He served three consecutive terms from 2002-2013. He was succeeded by Mayor Bill de Blasio in 2014. Bloomberg changed from Independent to Democrat in 2018. He announced his intentions to enter the 2020 presidential race on November 7, 2019.
