Melissa McCarthy is an American actress, comedian, and fashion designer. Her acting credits include Gilmore Girls, Bridesmaids, Tammmy, and Mike & Molly. She has a plus-size women’s clothing line called Seven7. McCarthy was born to parents Sandra and Michael on August 26, 1970, in Plainfield, Illinois. She has an older sister named Margie. McCarthy attended St. Francis Academy in Joliet, Illinois. She continued her education at Southern Illinois University where she studied textiles. She’s also an alumna of the sketch comedy troupe, The Groundlings.

CAREER
McCarthy began her stand-up career in New York City. She’s performed in a number of famous clubs including The Improv and Stand Up New York. McCarthy made her television debut in a 1997 episode of the sitcom, Jenny. Her feature film debut came two years later in the crime-comedy, Go, starring William Fichtner and Taye Diggs. She followed up with appearances in the 2000 films, Charlie’s Angels, Drowning Mona, and Disney’s The Kid.

McCarthy starred as “Sookie St. James” in the comedy-drama series, Gilmore Girls. The show ran from October 2000 to May 2007 for a total of 8 seasons. McCarthy’s next major role was that of “Molly Flynn” on the sitcom, Mike & Molly (2010–16). She won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2011 for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series. McCarthy held a recurring role as “Dena” on the ABC sitcom, Samantha Who? She’s hosted Saturday Night Live on a few occasions. She’s also done voice roles for the animated series Kim Possible and The Penguins of Madagascar.

McCarthy starred as “Megan Price” in Bridesmaids (2011), as “Diana” in Identity Thief (2013), and as “Michelle Darnell” in The Boss (2016). Other films include This Is 40 (2012) with Paul Rudd, Spy (2005) with Jason Statham, and Ghostbusters (2016) with Kristen Wiig.

In 2013, McCarthy launched her own production company called ‘On the Day Productions’. She’s also the founder of the plus-size clothing line, Melissa McCarthy Seven7. The fashion line debuted in summer 2015 and features sizes up to 28.
