Max Landis is an American screenwriter, director, producer, and occasional actor. His screenwriting credits include Bright (2017), Victor Frankenstein (2015), and Chronicle (2012). He executive produced the series Channel Zero (2016-) and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (2016-17). He’s also written for DC Comics and Image Comics. Landis was born on August 3, 1985, in Beverly Hills, California. His father, John Landis, is a director, and his mother, Deborah Nadoolman Landis, is a costume designer. He has an older sister named Rachel. Landis attended Beverly Hills High School followed by the University of Miami. He dropped out in 2008 to pursue his filmmaking career in Los Angeles.

CAREER
Landis began writing screenplays in his mid-teens. He co-wrote the 2005 episode “Deer Woman” for the Showtime series Masters of Horror. He penned the episode “Something with Bite” for the anthology series Fear Itself. Landis wrote the screenplay for the sci-fi thriller, Chronicle (2012). The film was directed by Josh Trank and stars Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, and Michael B. Jordan. It made $126 million at the box office. Landis made his directorial debut with the comedy film, Me Him Her (2015). He wrote the films American Ultra (2015) starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart, and Victor Frankenstein (2015) starring James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe. He directed Ariana Grande‘s 2015 music video “One Last Time”.

Landis wrote, directed, and produced the short film, Wrestling Isn’t Wrestling (2015). He wrote and served as executive producer for the films, Mr. Right (2016) and Bright (2017). He served as an executive producer for the television series Channel Zero (2016-) and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency (2016-17). His upcoming projects include the film, An American Werewolf in London. In addition to writing/directing, Landis has appeared in a few acting roles. His on-screen credits include The Stupids (1996) with Tom Arnold, Blues Brothers 2000 (1998) with Dan Aykroyd, and Burke & Hare (2010) with Simon Pegg. He was also featured on the web series Trailers from Hell, Movie Fights, and Best of the Worst.

Landis has written comics for big named publishers like DC Comics and Image Comics. In 2008, he contributed to the ‘Back to Mysterious Island’ comedy series for TidalWave Productions. He wrote the 7 issue mini-series ‘An American Werewolf in London’ for DC Comics. He contributed to the medieval fantasy series ‘Green Valley’ for Image Comics.
