Matt Lauer is an American talk show host and news anchor. He co-anchored NBC’s The Today Show from 1997 until he was fired in November 2017. He’s also worked with WNBC, PM Magazine, HBO Entertainment News, and served as a contributor for Dateline NBC. Matthew Todd Lauer was born on December 30, 1957, in New York City. His parents Marilyn and Robert (d. 1997) separated during his youth. He has a sister named April Stone. Lauer attended Greenwich High School in Connecticut, followed by the School of Media Arts and Studies of Ohio University. He graduated in 1997 with a BS degree in Communications.

CAREER
Lauer began his television career in the late 1970s. His first gig was as an intern at WOWK-TV in Huntington, West Virginia. His position was elevated to an on-air reporter in 1980. During his tenure, he hosted programs in cities like Philadelphia, Providence, and Boston. He served as host of PM Magazine from 1980 to 1986. Lauer hosted several shows in New York, including Made In New York with Jill Rappaport, and Fame, Fortune, and Romance with Robin Leach. He co-hosted the live talk show ‘9 Broadcast Plaza’ from 1989 to 1991. He co-anchored WNBC’s Today in New York alongside Jane Hanson from 1992 to 1996. He also co-hosted the early evening newscast ‘Live at Five’ with Sue Simmons.

Lauer became a news anchor for NBC’s Today Show in 1994. He co-hosted ‘Weekend Today’ and anchored NBC News at Sunrise (1992-97). He succeeded Bryant Gumbel as co-anchor of the Today Show in January 1997. One of his signature programs was “Where in the World is Matt Lauer”, where he reported from various locations across the globe. While at NBC, Lauer interviewed a number of personalities including President Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, Tom Cruise and Prince William. He’s covered events such as the Winter Olympic Games, and the passing of Pope John Paull II. He was fired from NBC in November 2017.

Lauer made a guest appearance on Will & Grace (2006) and in the TV movies Sharknado 2: The Second One (2014) and Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No! (2015). He made cameos in Land of the Lost (2009) with Will Ferrell, The Beaver (2011) with Mel Gibson, Entourage (2015) with Kevin Connolly, and Justin Bieber‘s Believe (2013). He voiced the character “Hark Hanson” for the animated film, Curious George 2: Follow That Monkey! (2009).
