Martin Garrix is a Dutch DJ, music producer, musician, and CEO of STMPD RCRDS. His discography includes the EPs Gold Skies (2014), Seven (2016), and Break Through the Silence (2015) vs Matisse & Sadko. He topped DJ Magazine’s 2016 and 2017 lists of Top-100 DJs. Garrix was born Martijn Gerard Garritsen on May 14, 1996, in Amstelveen, Netherlands. His father, Gerard, ran a stamp auctioning company. Garrix attended the vocational school Herman Brood Academie in Utrecht. He graduated in 2013.
CAREER
Garrix learned the guitar at a young age. He was inspired by DJ Tiesto to become a DJ. His newfound interest led him to the computer software FL Studio (formerly FruityLoops). Garrix started out playing at parties throughout Amsterdam. His 2012 remix of Christina Aguilera’s single “Your Body” landed him a spot on the Dance charts. He followed up with the collaborative song “BFAM” with Julian Jordan. Garrix inked a contract with Spinnin’ Records in 2012. His breakout single “Animals” was released in June 2013.
