Mae Jemison Is Alive

Mae Jemison is an American physician and NASA astronaut who became the first African-American female to journey into space. She flew into space on September 2nd, 1992 aboard the ‘Endeavour’ with six other astronauts. She received several awards and honorary doctorates for her accomplishments.

Jemison was born to Charlie Jemison and Dorothy Green on October 17, 1956 in Decatur, Alabama. She has two siblings ‘Charles’ and ‘Ada’. She grew up in Chicago, Illinois and attended Morgan Park High School. She completed her BS in chemical engineering in 1977 and her M.D. in 1981. She worked two years as a Peace Corps medical officer from 1985 to 1987. She was accepted into NASA’s astronaut training program in 1987.

Jemison has been featured on several television programs. She made a guest appearance in a 1993 episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. She appeared in the 2005 documentary, How William Shatner Changed the World, and the PBS television miniseries, African American Lives, in 2006.

Mae Jemison is 5ft 9in tall and rules under the star sign Libra. She has a net worth of $2 million. She founded The Jemison Group in 1993 followed by the Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence.
