CAREER
Kuechly’s interest in football dates back to the fourth grade. Though he initially wanted to play defense, he ended up playing linebacker and safety at St. Xavier. Kuechly led the team to a 15-0 record for the Division 1 Ohio state title in 2007. He recorded 130 tackles, 3 forced fumbles and an interception his senior year. He was a 2x All-Greater Catholic League selection at St. Xavier. Kuechly continued his football career with the Boston College Eagles from 2009 through 2011. He was a 2x Consensus All-American and 3× First-team All-ACC. Kuechly won the Jack Lambert and the Lombardi Awards in 2011. He was also named ACC Athlete of the Year.
Kuechly was selected by the Carolina Panthers with the 9th overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. He signed a rookie contract in May 2012 and made his NFL regular-season debut in September 2012. Kuechly was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2012 and NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2013. He was named to the 2014 Pro Bowl where they defeated the Indianapolis Colts. Kuechly is a 5x First-team All-Pro, 2× Second-team All-Pro and a 3x winner of the Butkus Award. He retired at the end of the 2019 season after 8 seasons with the Panthers.
