His father, Lavar Ball, is a retired American football player, and his mother, Tina Ball, played college basketball for the Cal State LA Golden Eagles. CAREER
Ball and his brothers learned the game of basketball from their father. He played four years of varsity basketball at Chino Hills High School under coach Steve Baik. Ball averaged 25 points, 11 rebounds, and 9.1 assists for the 2014-15 season. As a senior, he averaged a triple-double, led the Huskies to a 35-0 record, and won a state title. His high school honors include the Naismith Prep Player of the Year, the Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year, and Mr. Basketball USA. He was dubbed top point guard in California and the Western region by ESPN and Scout.
Ball continued his basketball career with the UCLA Bruins. He broke the single-season record for most assists with 7.6. He also averaged 14.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.9 steals for the 2016–17 season. Ball won the 2017 Wayman Tisdale Award. He was named a first-team All-American by the USBWA and Sporting News.
