ORIGIN
Lil Keed was an up-and-coming American rapper out of Atlanta, Georgia. He was the older brother of Lil Gotit. In 2018, Lil Keed established a name for himself with popular tracks like “Blicky Blicky,” “Fetish,” and “Nameless.” Similar to fellow rapper, Young Thug, he, too, grew up in the Cleveland Avenue apartment complex. Lil Keed was born Raqhid Jevon Render on March March 16, 1998, in Atlanta, Georgia. He traced his early childhood to an area known as Zone 3. Said area was no stranger to violence, drug usage, and gang activities.
Lil Keed had 6 brothers and 1 sister. Despite his parents separating, both were present in his upbringing. Prior to rapping, Keed admitted to doing “hot stuff” in order to earn money. Though he started rapping at a young age, in 2016, after losing a close friend, he began grinding seriously. Living close to a studio paid dividends as he was able to record on a daily basis. Lil Keed grew up listening to the music of Young Thug and Rich Kidz. Other notable up-and-coming Atlanta based artists include Gunna and Lil Baby.
CAREER
In 2017, Lil Keed’s music started appearing on media platforms. Some of his earliest standouts included “Same Damn Thang” and “Dirty Dancer” alongside Lil Gotit. Both songs have received well over a million streams, collectively.
In July 2018, Lil Keed successfully released the mixtape, Trapped On Cleveland 2. The 16-track project featured Paperlovee, Persona, and Yung Slatt. The mix was led by “Blicky Blicky,” “Fetish,” and “Zoned Out.” “Fetish” quickly became very popular among listeners; racking in close to a million YouTube views in just a few months. In September 2018, the remix featuring Young Thug was released. Since aired, the track has garnered millions of views on YouTube. Before collaborating with Thug, he first met the rapper in a local park. After listening to some of Keed’s tracks, Thug later reached out to him and the two developed a working relationship.
In December 2018, Lil Keed dropped another mixtape, Keed Talk To Em. Featured artists included Trippie Redd, 21 Savage, Lil Yachty, Lil Durk, and others. The mix was spearheaded by “Nameless,” “Balenciaga,” and “Red Hot.” Being the recipient of millions of streams, Lil Keed has since worked with established rappers and his talent ultimately landed him a contract with Young Thug’s YSL Record and 300 Entertainment. Keed’s other projects include Long Live Mexico (2019) and Trapped on Cleveland 3 (2020). His 20-track album, Keed Talk to ‘Em 2, was released posthumously in March 2023.
