ORIGIN
Kygo is a Norwegian DJ, songwriter, and music producer. He’s best known for the 2014 single “Firestone” featuring Conrad Sewell. His discography includes Cloud Nine (2016), Kids in Love (2017), and Stargazing (2017). He’s also remixed popular songs like “I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran. Kygo was born Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll on September 11, 1991, in Singapore. His parents are Kjersti Gjerde and Lars Gørvell-Dahll. He has siblings, Johanne, Jenny, and Sondre, and stepbrother, Mads. Kyo traveled the world with his parents as a child. He majored in business/finance at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, but never completed a degree.

CAREER
Kygo started out playing the piano at a young. His first attempt at music production was done using a MIDI keyboard and the Apple software Logic Studio. He learned the basics by watching YouTube video tutorials. His biggest influence was Swedish musician Avicii. In 2013, Kygo released a remix to “Younger” by Seinabo Sey. Other remixes followed such as “Sexual Healing” by Marvin Gaye. His first major hit “Firestone” was released in December 2014. It featured Australian singer Conrad Sewell. The song has more than 46 million plays on SoundCloud. The accompanying music video has upwards of 480 million plays on YouTube. Kygo’s next project was a remix to “Midnight” by Coldplay. He worked briefly with the EDM brand ‘Ultra Music’ in 2014.

In 2014, Kygo inked a record contract with the labels Sony International and Ultra Music. His label debut “ID” was released in February 2015. He followed up with the single “Stole the Show” featuring Parson James. The song graced several music charts across the globe. A third single “Nothing Left” featuring British singer Will Heard was released in July 2015. It peaked at the #1 spot on the Norwegian singles chart. Kygo’s debut studio album, Cloud Nine, was released in May 2016 by Sony and Ultra. It featured guest appearances from John Legend, Tom Odell, Julia Michaels, and Labrinth among others. The album charted at #11 on the Billboard 200. It was certified 2x Platinum in Norway with more than 60,000 units sold. Kygo’s debut EP, Stargazing, was released in September 2017. It featured Selena Gomez on the Billboard Hot 100 single “It Ain’t Me”. His second studio album, Kids in Love, was released by Columbia Records in November 2017. It was supported by “Kids in Love” featuring the pop band The Night Game.
