Kurt Rambis Is Alive

ORIGIN
Kurt Rambis played fourteen years in the NBA before making his coaching debut in 1994. He’s a four-time NBA champion and current associate head coach of the New York Knicks. He’s 6ft 8in tall and played the power forward position.

Rambis was born on February 25, 1958, in Terre Haute, Indiana. He moved to California during childhood where he attended Cupertino High School. He enrolled at Santa Clara University in 1976 and was named Conference Player of the year in 1980.

CAREER
Rambis was selected by the New York Knicks with the 58th overall pick in the 1980 NBA draft. He played a year in the Greek Basket League after being waived by the Knicks. He signed to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1981 and won his first championship in 1982. He was nicknamed “superman” because of his thick mustache and thick-framed glasses. Rambis played briefly for the Hornets, Suns, and Kings. He resigned with the Lakers in 1993 and retired two years later in 1995. Rambis served as the Lakers assistant coach from 1994-1999 and head coach for the 1999 lockout season. He served as the Minnesota Timberwolves head coach from 2009-2011 before returning to the Lakers in 2013. He was named interim head coach of the NY Knicks on February 8, 2016, after Derek Fisher was fired. He currently serves as the Knicks associate head coach.
