Kevin Smith is an American filmmaker, actor, comedian, writer, and podcaster. He starred as “Silent Bob” in films like Clerks (1994), Chasing Amy (1997), and Dogma (1999). He hosts the AMC series Comic Book Men (2012-) and Geeking Out (2016-). His publications include Silent Bob Speaks (2005) and Shootin’ the Sh*t with Kevin Smith (2009). He’s also known for co-hosting the podcasts ‘Fatman on Batman’ and ‘SModcast’. Kevin Patrick Smith was born on August 2, 1970, in Red Bank, New Jersey. His father, Donald, worked as a postal worker, and his mother, Grace, was a homemaker. He has two older siblings, Donald Jr. and Virginia. Smith is a 1988 graduate of Henry Hudson Regional School. Smith’s film debut was the independent black-and-white comedy, Clerks (1994). He served as director, screenwriter, and co-produced. He also starred in the role of “Silent Bob”. The film was shot in a convenience store in which he worked. It won the Filmmaker’s Trophy at the Sundance Film Festival, and the Prix de la Jeunesse Award at the Cannes International Film Festival. Smith reprised the role of Silent Bob in Mallrats (1995), Chasing Amy (1997), and Dogma (1999). He starred opposite Jason Mewes in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001). Next, he wrote and directed Jersey Girl (2004), starring Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler. He had a supporting role as “Sam” in the romantic comedy, Catch and Release (2007). Smith wrote and directed, Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008), starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks. It made $42.1 million at the box office. He also directed Cop Out (2010) with Bruce Willis, Tusk (2014) with Justin Long, and Yoga Hosers (2016) with his daughter Harley Quinn Smith.

Smith appeared in 5 episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation (2005-06). His early television credits include Law & Order, Joey, and Veronica Mars. He lent his voice to the series Duck Dodgers, Reaper, Phineas and Ferb, and The Big Bang Theory. Smith began hosting the AMC reality series ‘Comic Book Men’ in February 2012. The show takes place in his comic book shop ‘Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash’ which is located in Red Bank, New Jersey. It was renewed for the 7th season in May 2017. Smith co-hosted the late-night talk show ‘Geeking Out’ alongside Greg Grunberg. It ran for 9 episodes from July to October 2016.
