Kamaiyah is an American rapper, singer, and former member of The Big Money Gang (BMG). She’s best known for her debut mixtape, A Good Night in the Ghetto (2016). Her singles include “How Does it Feel” and “Break You Down”. Kamaiyah Jamesha Johnson was born on March 13, 1995, in Oakland, California. She attended Hayward High School in Hayward, California. She worked as a security guard prior to music.

CAREER
Kamaiyah drew inspiration from acts like Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Bow Wow and TLC. She began writing her own lyrics at an early age. Her debut single “How Does it Feel” was released in 2015. It was dubbed one of the top songs of 2016 by Pitchfork and NPR. Kamaiyah’s first official mixtape, A Good Night in the Ghetto, was independently released in March 2016. It featured tracks like “Break You Down”, “Nxggas” and “F*ck It Up” featuring YG. The mixtape had productions from CT Beats, P-Lo, Trackademicks, and a few others. It was ranked among the best mixtapes of 2016 by The Guardian, Complex, and Rolling Stone. Kamaiyah performed at South by Southwest (SXSW) in March 2016. It’s an annual event held in Austin, Texas.

Kamaiyah was featured on YG’s 2016 single “Why You Always Hatin?” alongside Drake. The song peaked at #62 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified Gold by the RIAA. Her next feature was on the track “Petty” from E-40’s, The D-Boy Diary (Deluxe Edition). She’s also made guest appearances on Stunna June’s “Money Like This” and Lil Yachty‘s “All Around Me”. Kamaiyah was named to the 2017 XXL Freshman Class. The other freshmen include A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Playboi Carti and Ugly God.
