Jussie Smollett is an American actor, singer and songwriter from Santa Rosa, California. He’s best known for his role of “Jamal Lyon” in the drama series, Empire. On the small screen, he’s appered on programs like On Our Own, Underground, and Live! with Kelly. His film credits include The Mighty Ducks (1992), Alien: Covenant (2017) and Marshall (2017). Smollet’s debut album, Sum of My Music, was released in 2018. His standout singles include “Keep Your Money”, “Conqueror” with Estelle, and “You’re so Beautiful” featuring Yazz.

Jussie Langston Mikha Smollett was born on June 21, 1982 in Santa Rosa, California. His parents are Joel and Janet. He has five siblings, Jake, Jocqui, Jojo, Jazz and Jurnee. Smollett attended three different high schools including Calabasas High and Malibu High. He completed his diploma at Paramus Catholic High in New Jersey.

CAREER
Smollett made his acting debut in the 1991 television film, A little Piece of Heaven. He followed up with supporting role in the films, The Mighty Ducks (1992) with Emilio Estevez, and North (1994) with Elijah Wood. Smollet and his real-life siblings starred in the ABC sitcom, On Our Own, from 1994 to 1995. He also did voice acting for the animated series ‘Cro’ from 1993 to 1994. In 2012, He starred as “Magnus” in LGBT-themed independent film, The Skinny.

Smollett was cast as “Jamal Lyon” in the series Empire in 2014. The show premiered on Fox in January 2015 and was renewed for a third season in January 2016. On January 29, 2019, Smollett filed an assault/hate crime report with the Chicago Police Department. Based on the evidence provided, a grand jury concluded that the attack was staged. The actor reportedly paid 2 men (Ola and Abel Osundairo) by check ($3,500) to stage the attack. Smollett turned himself in on February 21, 2019. He was indicited on 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct on March 8, 2019. All charges were dropped on March 26, 2019.
