John Schnatter is an American entrepreneur, founder, chairman, and CEO of Papa John’s International, Inc. He’s slated to step down as the company’s CEO in January 2018. John H. Schnatter was born on November 22, 1961, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. His father, Robert (d. 1985), was a judge, and his mother, Mary Beth, a real estate agent. He has two younger siblings, Anne and Charles. Schnatter attended Jeffersonville High School followed by Ball State University. He graduated in 1983 with a BA degree in business administration.

CAREER
Schnatter worked at a few pizza joints including Rocky’s and later at Greek’s Pizzeria. His first business venture was as co-owner of his father’s tavern ‘Mick’s Lounge’. The restaurant and sports lounge are located on Gateway Plaza in Jeffersonville, Indiana. The Papa John’s Pizza restaurant chain was founded in 1984. Schnatter started the pizza company out of a small converted space at the back of Mick’s Lounge. He raised start-up funds by selling his 1972 Camaro Z28. He used a portion of the money to buy $1,600 worth of used restaurant equipment. Papa John’s is now one of the world’s largest take-out and pizza delivery franchises. Schnatter appeared in several Papa John’s TV commercials alongside NFL quarterback Peyton Manning. The slogan for Papa John’s Pizza reads “Better Ingredients. Better Pizza.”. The company also sponsors the Super Bowl.

In December 2017, Schnatter announced he would be stepping down as CEO of Papa John’s Pizza. He will continue as the company’s chairman. The role of CEO will fall to COO Steve Ritchie. He relinquished his post 2 months after publicly criticizing the NFL’s leadership with regards to players protesting the national anthem.

John Schnatter’s height is around 5ft 10in. His net worth is estimated at $1 billion according to Forbes. His hands are insured for $15.3 million. He owns a vintage 1971 Chevrolet Camaro which is on display at the company’s headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky. The vehicle was stolen and recovered two days later in August 2015. Schnatter married ‘Annette’ in April 1987. They have three children, Danielle, Beau, and Kristine. The family resides in Anchorage, Kentucky.
