John Heard was an American film, television, and stage actor. He co-starred as “Peter McCallister” in the ‘Home Alone’ films alongside Macaulay Culkin. His film credits include Heart Beat (1980), Cat People (1982), and C.H.U.D. (1984). He’s also held prominent roles in television shows like ‘The Client’, ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Prison Break’. John Matthew Heard Jr. was born on March 7, 1945, in Washington, D.C. His parents were Helen and John. He had three siblings including a sister, Cordis, and a brother, Matthew. Heard is a graduate of Gonzaga College High School. He continued his studies at Clark University and at the Catholic University of America. He was inducted into the Gonzaga College High School Theatre Hall of Fame in 2003.

CAREER
Heard began his acting career on stage in the 1970s. During that time he appeared in several plays both on and off-Broadway. He was presented with the Theatre World Award in 1977 for his role in the Vietnam drama ‘G.R. Point’. His stage credits include The Wager, Othello, and Split. Heard made his feature film debut in Between the Lines (1977). The film was directed by Joan Micklin Silver and was nominated for 3 awards at the 27th Berlin International Film Festival. Heard portrayed “Arthur Dimmesdale” in the television miniseries The Scarlet Letter (1979). The show was based on Nathaniel Hawthorne’s 1850 novel of the same name. Other early films include Chilly Scenes of Winter (1982), Cutter’s Way (1981) with Jeff Bridges, and Cat People (1982) with Nastassja Kinski. He was also featured in the sci-fi horror, C.H.U.D. (1984), alongside Daniel Stern.

Heard co-starred as “Paul Davenport” in the fantasy-comedy Big (1988) with Tom Hanks and Elizabeth Perkins. Other notable films include Awakenings (1990), Deceived (1991), The Pelican Brief (1993), and One Eight Seven (1997). Heard is probably best known for his role as “Peter McCallister” in the hit comedy film, Home Alone (1990). He played the father of Macaulay Culkin’s character Kevin. The role of Peter McCallister was reprised in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992). Heard starred as “Roy Foltrigg” opposite JoBeth Williams in the CBS series The Client (1995-96). He guest-starred as detective “Vin Makazian” in 5 episodes of The Sopranos (1999-2004). That role earned him an Emmy Award nomination for outstanding guest actor in a drama series. His television credits also include Battlestar Galactica, CSI Miami, Prison Break, and NCIS: Los Angeles.

John Heard died on July 21, 2017, at the age of 72. His official cause of death was a heart attack. He was found dead in a hotel in Palo Alto, California. He was reportedly recovering from back surgery. Heard was 5ft 9in tall and he was of Irish, English, and Jewish ancestry. He had an estimated net worth of $3.5 million. Heard was married briefly to actress ‘Margot Kidder’ in 1979. He fathered a son, John Matthew, with ex-girlfriend Melissa Leo. His second wife was ‘Sharon Heard’ (1988-1996). They had two children, Max and Annika. Heard’s third marriage was to ‘Lana Pritchard’ in May 2010. The union only lasted for a few months. They were divorced in December 2010.
