Joey Badass is an American rapper, actor, and member of the collective Pro Era. He’s known for the albums B4.DA.$$ (2015) and All-Amerikkkan Bada$$ (2017). His acting credits include the thriller series Mr. Robot. Joey Badass was born Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott on January 20, 1995, in Brooklyn, New York. His mother is from St. Lucia and his father from Jamaica. They separated when he was about 5. Badass studied music at Edward R. Murrow High School. He initially wanted to pursue acting.

CAREER
Joey Badass started out writing poetry at a young age. His music influence include MF DOOM, Nas, Andre 3000, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay Z and Tupac Shakur. He made his debut onto the rap scene after a 2010 video of him freestyling made its way onto World Star Hip Hop. The video caught the attention of Johnny Snipes of Cinematic Music Group, who later became his manager. Badass is also a founding member of the hip-hop collective, Pro Era. Past and present members include Capital Steez, Powers Pleasant, CJ Fly, Kirk Knight, and Nyck Caution. Selected projects from the group include The Secc$ TaP.E. (2012), P.E.E.P.: The aPROcalypse (2012), and The Shift (2014).

Joey Badass released his debut solo mixtape, 1999, in June 2012. The 15-track tape featured production from Lewis Parker, J Dilla, Lord Finesse, and a few others. A second mixtape titled ‘Rejex’ was released three months later. It included tracks that didn’t make it onto his debut. In 2013, Badass released his debut EP, Summer Knight. It featured reggae artist Collie Buddz on the track “My Yout”. The EP peaked at #48 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. He also collaborated with DJ Premier on the 2013 single “Unorthodox”. Joey Badass’s debut studio album, B4.Da.$$, was released in January 2015. It peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 and sold more than 220,000 copies. The album was led by the singles “Big Dusty”, “Christ Conscious” and “No. 99”. His sophomore album, All-Amerikkkan Badass, dropped in April 2017. It featured guest vocals from Chronixx, ScHoolboy Q, J. Cole and Styles P.

In addition to rapping, Joey Badass is an actor. In 2016, he was cast as “Leon” in the drama-thriller series, Mr. Robot. The show was created by Sam Esmail and stars Rami Malek. It premiered on USA Network on June 24, 2015. Badass held the lead role in the short film, No Regrets (2014). He’s made appearances on television programs like The Tonight with Jimmy Fallon, RapFix Live, Last Call with Carson Daly, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
