Jemele Hill is an American sports journalist and television personality. She currently co-hosts ESPN’s SportsCenter. Prior to that, she worked on the programs ‘His and Hers’ and ‘Page 2’ for ESPN. Jemele Juanita Hill was born on December 21, 1975, in Detroit, Michigan. Her parents are Jerel Brickerson and Denise Dennard. Her father, Jerel, once struggled with drug addiction. The family also endured their fair share of financial difficulties. Growing up, Hill used sports and writing to cope with the challenges her family faced. She attended Mumford High School followed by Michigan State University. She graduated in 1997 with a degree in journalism and a minor in Spanish.

CAREER
Hill began her career as a journalist in 1997. She worked briefly as a general assignment sports writer for the Raleigh News & Observer. In 1998, she won the North Carolina Press Association Award for sports feature writing. Hill joined the Detroit Free Press in 1999 as a writer. During her tenure, she covered Michigan State football/basketball, the 2004 Summer Olympics, and the NBA Playoffs. She worked as a columnist for the Orlando Sentinel newspaper from 2005 to 2006.

Hill joined ESPN in 2006 as a national columnist on ESPN.com. She appeared on several ESPN programs, including SportsCenter, First Take, Outside the Lines, and The Sports Reporters. She worked as a sideline reporter alongside Carter Blackburn and Rod Gilmore during the 2012 college football season. She was honored with the inaugural McKenzie Cup at the 2007 Poynter Media Summit. Hill and Michael Smith co-hosted the sports discussion program ‘His & Hers’ from September 2011 through January 2017. The duo was dubbed evening anchors of ESPN’s flagship show ‘SportsCenter’ in February 2017. Their segment is called SC6 with Michael and Jemele. Hill is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ). In July 2016, She participated in The President and the People: A National Conversation, alongside President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
