ORIGIN
Jonathan Joshua Perez, better known as “JayDaReal”, is an American recording artist from Manhattan, New York. He embarked on his musical journey with the hit single “Memories” which was subsequently featured on his album Realest In Zone6ix (2015). The project performed admirably on the Spotify charts. JayDaReal was born on June 13, 1995, in NYC. His parents Geovanny Cuevas (Mother) & Eduardo Perez (Father) are from the Dominican Republic. They moved to the United States just before he was born. Jay has 4 siblings – a younger brother & younger sister, and an older brother & older sister.

Jay discovered his passion for music at an early age. He kept a close eye on the industry, knowing that one day he would make his mark. With that said, Jay saved his money and by age 16 he had enough for his recording studio. He’s currently signed to his record label “Zone6iix”. During high school, Jay was inspired by Drake, Lil Wayne, and Speaker Knockerz. He also looked up to old-school rappers like Tupac, Biggie, and Ice Cube.

JayDaReal songs are a mixture of Hip-Hop, Rap, and R&B/Soul. To date, he’s released a mixtape ‘My Dedication’, four albums ‘Realest In Zone6ix’, ‘212 To 513’, ‘Born Real’, ‘Gemini’, and an EP ‘1995est’. JayDaReal has performed in the Cincinnati, Ohio, area and at several Coast 2 Coast events. With success on the horizon, Jay is all about the music. His rise in popularity is also evident on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

CAREER
JayDaReal originally started his career in high school. As a freshman, he freestyled to his friends on the bus and in their school’s lunchroom. Back then, it was all for fun, for passing time, and for entertaining his peers. Jay graduated from Middletown High School in Middletown, OH, in 2013. He continued his music career, but at that time he wasn’t fully committed. Jay gained some stage presence performing at open mics, karaoke, and at local bars. However, It wasn’t until a friend of his from high school encouraged him that he began to take the music game seriously.

As mentioned earlier, Jay was inspired by Drake, Lil Wayne, Speaker Knockerz, Tupac, Biggie, and Ice Cube among others. His friends also played a vital role in taking his career from SoundCloud to where it’s at today. In 2015, Jay released ‘Realest In Zone6ix’. The project caught the attention of the YouTube couple “Kaelin and Kyrah” (now known as “The Edwards Family). His hit single “Memories” was used as the intro to their videos. This massive exposure from the couple’s 1.85+ million subscribers served as fuel for Jay’s career.

In addition to YouTube, the track earned Jay a plaque through Spotify after hitting 1.5 million streams. The song’s success also led to rapper Bryson Tiller sampling Jay’s beat and also the voice from Flight Facilities – Heart Attack (feat. Owl Eyes). This was a stepping stone and a huge accomplishment for an independent upcoming artist.

At present, Jay continues to work on his craft, with new projects dropping on the regular. The Manhattan native has been seen working with a few well-known artists such as Ja-Bar from Soulja Boy SODMG team, and some of Fetty Wap’s artists. He’s also leaked working with some of Chief Keef’s artists as well who are affiliated through his team. JayDaReal has hinted that another mixtape and another album are in the works for 2021.

PERSONAL
JayDaReal was raised Catholic. However, he has his own beliefs. His hobbies include sports (primarily basketball) and traveling. Jay is a huge fan of the Los Angeles Lakers. He idolizes the late Kobe Bean Bryant and considers him a role model. Following Kobe’s death, Jay paid tribute to the basketball legend with a tattoo on his left rib.

Jay has a tattoo of his daughter’s name “Amila Perez” on his right rib. His other prominent tattoos include a tribute of heaven on his chest with a cross in the middle, an Angel face on the right, and the names of loved ones on the left. These precious names include his grandpa, uncle, and his close friend (nicknamed “Lil Dee”) who passed away in a tragic car accident at a young age.
