Janet Marie Waldo was an American actress best known for voicing “Judy Jetson” in The Jetsons animated series. She was born to parents Jane and Benjamin on February 4, 1920 in Yakima, Washington. Her sister ‘Elisabeth’ is a violinist. Waldo completed her education at the University of Washington. She performed in a number of school plays and eventually caught the attention of singer and actor, Bing Crosby.

CAREER
Waldo signed to Paramount Pictures and landed a series of bit roles starting in 1938. Her first credited role was that of “Ruth Phelps” in the 1938 mystery film, Tom Sawyer, Detective. She held supporting roles in The Bandit Trail (1941) , and Land of the Open Range (1942). Waldo made the transition to radio in 1943 with the help of Crosby. She appeared on a number of programs including Meet Corliss Archer, One Man’s Family, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, and Adventures in Odyssey.

Waldo supplied the voice of “Judy Jetson” in the animated sitcom, The Jetsons. She held the role from 1962 to 1963 and from 1985 to 1987. She reprised the role as Judy in The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones (1987). Waldo also voiced “Pearl Slaghoople” in The Flintstones, “Nancy” in Shazzan, “Penelope Pitstop” in Wacky Races, and “Josie” in Josie and the Pussycats.

PERSONAL
Janet Waldo died on Sunday June 12, 2016 at the age of 96. She was diagnosed with a benign but inoperable brain tumor five years prior. Waldo was married to playwright ‘Robert Edwin Lee’ from 1948 until his death in 1994. They had two children, Lucy and Jonathan.
